Closing Day

An Hour of Signatures. A Folder Full of Documents.

The paperwork makes it official. The key is where everything else begins.

Leslie Huggins beside a closing day collage of documents and a couple moving into their new home, with the article title

Closing day is an hour of paperwork. Wire confirmations, initials, signatures, a stack of documents thick enough to stop a door.

And then everything official is done, and someone slides a key across the table.

It's just a key. The least expensive thing in the room. But watch a buyer pick it up. Something changes in their face, every single time, because that little piece of metal is the only thing on the table that isn't about the transaction. The documents say what you bought. The key says what happens next.

It unlocks first mornings and last boxes. Birthdays that haven't happened yet. Christmas mornings, snow days, homework at the kitchen table, late talks on the back patio. Every ordinary day that will quietly turn that address into the place your life happened.

Congratulations to my buyers on getting the key today. The paperwork was the price. Everything it opens is the prize.

Happy closing day.

If you know someone whose key moment should happen this year, send them my way. It's my favorite thing to hand somebody.
