Most Homeowners Miss This Simple Energy-Saving Opportunity

Most homeowners blame the thermostat, but the dryer often does more damage. A few laundry-room habits can cut waste, lower costs, and improve safety.

Most homeowners obsess over the thermostat while running their dryer every day and wondering why the electric bill keeps climbing.

Small shifts add up. Run full loads, not half loads. Clean the lint trap every single cycle, which also matters for fire safety. Inspect the dryer vent twice a year. In the summer, air dry heavier items like jeans and towels when you can.

If your dryer takes more than 40 minutes to dry a normal load, the vent is likely partially blocked. That is usually an easy fix, and it can save you hundreds on your utility bill over the course of the year.

Share it with your partner. The laundry room may be the easiest place in the house to cut your summer energy bill without touching the thermostat at all.
